Recreational Co-ed 6's Rules

Standard CIAU rules apply:

  • You are allowed one step over the service line when serving.
  • Players may not block a serve.
  • Rotate in extra players.
  • Stay off the net (if a player touches the net while the ball is still in play, the point AND serve goes to the opposing team).
  • If the ball lands on the line, it is considered in.
  • Double hits are allowed off the serve.
  • Let serves are good (i.e. if the ball hits the net on the serve and lands in the opposition’s court, it is considered a point for the serving team).
  • Maximum of 3 touches per side.
  • A block is not counted as a hit.
  • Players may NOT use their feet.
  • No lifting or scooping the ball.
  • No jump-spiking permitted from anywhere.
  • Only standing spiking is allowed.
  • Call your own infractions. Players may also question other player's infractions – both teams must come to a mutual decision about the call.
  • If the teams cannot come to a mutual agreement the point must be replayed.
  • *Please note that this is a league geared towards enjoyment of the sport for everyone.
  • Please make calls using your own discretion*
  • Games are 6 v 6 players with a minimum of 2 female players on the court at all times. Teams without at least one female player must default their game(s); teams with one female player must play with only 4 players (3 males and 1 female).
  • Maximum of 5 consecutive serves per player.
  • Teams may NOT use substitute players for any match night.
  • Players must play at least 50% of the regular season games and must be a registered member of the team to be eligible to play in the playoffs.

  • Each match consists of 2 games or allotted time (55 minutes), which ever comes first.
  • Games go to 25 points using the rally point system. Teams must win by 2 points, capped at 28 points.
  • Games are to begin on time! If games begin late, no make up time will be given.
  • Maximum of 10 players allowed per team.
  • Please report your team’s scores to the coordinator before leaving.
  • Aim High Athletics reserves the right to change or implement new rules at any point throughout the season.
  • Any rule suggestions throughout the season are welcome. Please contact the league manager.

  • Teams must leave a $200 non refundable deposit at time of registration - balance is due before the first match.
  • Rosters and waivers must be completed prior to the first match of each season and handed in to league administration.
  • Only players on the roster will be permitted to play.
  • The Athletics Adult Volleyball League - AAVL - is self-officiated; we ask that everyone be fair and honest when making a judgment call – in the event of a disagreement and the two sides cannot come to an agreement, the point will be re-played.
